The University of Missouri’s MU Drainage and Subirrigation (MUDS) Plot 4 is a private collaborator site located on diked, poorly drained floodplain soils in northeastern Missouri. MUDS 4 evaluates undrained, conventional drainage, and controlled drainage plots. Management decisions regarding water level control structures were made based on field observations of soil moisture, air temperature, and anticipated precipitation. Slides were removed from the water level control structures during periods when drainage was required to reduce soil moisture conditions to allow for timely field operations or improve plant growth conditions.
